We’ve received a few emails recently complaining about the advertising on artfist.org - with one writer going as far as to say that we are misleading our readership by claiming to be not-for-profit whilst generating money from advertising.
Not-for-profit does not mean that we are not going to attempt to recoup some of our costs. It means that if we do make any profit, it gets put back into the site. With the advertising revenues being so meagre, it is doubtful that we will cover our domain costs by the end of the year, let alone be diving into our giant money bins in a Scrooge McDuck style.
The fact is that we want to keep artfist.org free for its users and contributors alike, so running unobtrusive ads is the most efficient way of doing this.
To clarify, we are still not-for-profit, will always be not-for-profit, and want to keep the site growing and improving. Everyone involved in artfist.org, from the editor to the contributors, is doing so on a voluntary basis.
Feel free to click on the ads though ;)
